I have a back-country trip to Yellowstone coming up in February. Doing a little looking I see the temp range low is only 32°F/0°C. That's not very low and I don't expect the high to reach that lower temp limit. Anyone shooting below this temp? Any precautions or damage risk I should be aware of?

Thanks.

I have used my Nikons in really cold climates in eastern Europe and had no issues. Lenses will fog up a little but clear up ok as the match outside ambient temps. Nikon builds tough cameras!

I try to cool it down or warm it up slowly before using. As bill said, a quick temp change will fog the lens. If I am shooting outside in the winter and traveling, I keep my car cold also, so when I stop to take pics, the camera is already cold. Keep the lens cap on between temp changes also, may slow down the fogging.

I shot the Geminid meteor shower in 24F weather from the highest mountain in Georgia and had no camera issues. I did rubber band hand warmers to my lenses and that took care of the fogging issues.

It has been 29 and icy mixed with rain here tonight and I would not hesitate to use my cameras out in it. But alas it is cold as heck and I am staying in where it is warm and dry tonight thank you. :)

In general I am more concerned about the heat rather than the cold.

I read a complaint by a nature photog who says he was shooting in temperatures in the 20s when the plastic mount of his 55-200 DX lens snapped off.
He said Nikon steadfastly refused to fix it (under warrantee) and told him cold could not have caused the mount to break.
Only he knows what really happened but I though I'd pass that along.
Maybe someone should invent a lens warmer <G>
