Re: Shutter count per photo trip
I wouldn't worry about hurting the shutter on a D500 by using it as you enjoy. If it stops working, you get it replaced by Nikon and keep using it or sell it and buy a newer camera. My shooting numbers typically range from the 50-300 on a slow day to up to 2500-3000 on a good day at a good location. But I don't shoot every day, and when I do, I'm usually using at least two cameras.
My opinion is that it's slow due to multiple reasons, the one with the biggest impact is restricted travel and activity due to COVID, both mandatory and voluntary. We've also got a changing demographic, and while it may be slower now, it's likely to pick up in the future. Members come and go, and it only takes a small number of active photographers to increase the activity significantly. Maybe you're the one that's going to do this!

I always shot CL with my D7100. I was shocked the first time I hit the shutter on the D500 with the CL setting. I thought I had a machine gun in my hands. Ha! Even at 5fps it really seemed to fly. Anyway, the first day out I fired about 100 shots without breaking a sweat in a very short time. Only a few to call half way keepers. I would hate to see how many shots I would take on a good bird/wildlife day.
