I can finally post here. :-)

    Hello all,
I have wanted a D500 from the time Nikon announced it. I have a D600, which I love, but since I do 90% wildlife, and most of that is birds, I wanted the great AF. Large buffer. 10 fps. And the extra reach of the crop sensor. But since I am disabled, money is not something I have much of. Well as you read in the title, I can finally post here. I got one. But not how I was hoping. I loved my D600. Even if it didn't have very good AF. And a very small buffer. Only 5 fps. It still gave me great images. But sadly, it has passed. It had a fatal fall of 6 1/2 feet. I was not even in the hose when it happened. I put it on top of the fridge at my daughters house at her boyfriends daughters birthday party. Wanted to keep little hands off of it. I thought I pushed it back far enough. But when someone opened the door, the D600 fell to its death. At first I thought, maybe it will be ok. Wishful thinking. It would not focus and even though the shutter sounded like it worked, the images were not right. Obviously, there was shutter damage. I was fighting back tears. Photography is more than a hobby to me. It gets me out of the house when I am able and gets me away from people who get on my nerves. Keeps my head right. I was devastated. I thought, no camera. No money to get a camera. This stinks. But my wife who has very good credit told me to get a used one. And to get the camera I have wanted. To say I was shocked would be a understatement. I shopped around and not much was available in those days of looking. And what was was not a bargain. So I ended up getting a refurb from Nikon. More then we wanted to spend. but hey, it happens. Of course a few days after I got it I found a few good deals. but I kept them to myself. I think I might have gotten a new one. I know sometimes Nikon does that when they have a lot of new stock and are having a sale on refurbs, they will re package new ones. I was told they do not reset the shutter count when they do a refurb. Mine came with 0 clicks. Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? I was hoping when i got my D500 after years of dreaming of ne, I would also have my D600 for landscapes and portraits. But sadly, not I don't. But at least I have a camera that is best suited for what I do90% of the time. I have already gotten shots I know my D600 would have never gotten from its hard time locking on a flying bird. The only downside is I won't be getting a Christmas present or birthday present for the next 10 years. LOL.

One of my favorite shots with the D500 so far.

One of the shots I know my D600 would not have gotten. I know. I tried for years.

Sorry to hear about your D600 Bill. I know how I felt when my D500 hit the ground taking it off my shoulder. Mine still works but you can't see the settings on the rear screen.

I know you'll do a really great job with the D500. Looking forward to seeing more of your work here and in Birds & Blooms!

I completely understand how you feel. My D500 hit the ground from my truck with the Sigma 150-600(C) attached. I forgot that the backpack was unzipped on the truck floor and picked it up and heard the crash as it hit the ground. Getting ready to send it in to Nikon to get repaired (maybe). It broke the lens mount on the body. The Sigma seems to be working just fine. You'll love the D500, espcially for wildlife, mussing mine right now.

Once was enough for me but I was lucky only the lens hood was damaged.
