Battery settings on D50

Hi

I'm new to photography and own a D50. When switched in the off postion the LCD display still displays a symbol and the battery drains down over a day/two.

Is there a setting I can use to stop this happening, and if so, how do I find it on the Menu?

thanks

John

Here is the manual for the D50: http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/D50_en.pdf

Since your camera is about 8 years old and may still have the original battery, it may be time to replace the battery. The symbol that displays on the LCD even if the camera is off, is the picture count. This will not drain your battery in a few days. Invest in a new battery and you will be good to go.

Hi and thanks to all 3 of you for replying.

I did buy a replacement battery but have the same problem with both. I read the manual and (as much as I could understand) couldn't see a low power option. Maybe if I return the camera to factory settings?

I'm in the UK by the way pnb.

Interesting. Sure, set it back to factory settings. Did you buy an original Nikon battery? So, you charged the new battery up and you are still getting on a few days out of it? Are you shooting alot? Lots of flash?

Replacement battery was bought on ebay - not sure, but doubt it was genuine Nikon. Not taking a lot of photos, but some with flash. Seems just to trickle flat while in the bag. I'll restore factory settings, as I guess this will do no harm.

Its the ENeL3 battery ..had lots in the past and no problem with them running down over a month a least when camera not in use in fact have left cameras turned on for days (they auto off ) and battery still good. Daughter has a D50 and leaves hers for weeeks between usees without problem..sounds like a problem with the camera...did you get it new ? did it always do it ? if you just bought it ( on ebay) get your money back via pay pal ... Is there a software upgrade available check on nikon.com
