Hi Guys,

Im new here but have a question...

I have just replaced my D3100 with a D3300, and kept my Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro Lens but it will not auto focus on the new camera. I thought the D3100 and D3300 used the same type lens so fully expected it to work.

Am i missing something? The new kit lens on the D3300 doesnt have a manual A/M switch for focus, it is controlled on the body itself... Im not sure if this affects anything?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Adam

Welcome. If it worked on the d3100, it should work on the d3300. Both bodies need the lens to have a focus motor. Make sure your focus menu is not set to MF. If your kit lens works, then the menu setting is not the issue. Also make sure by twisting the lens that it is clicked into position securely. I don't know your lens, but Sigma has had some firmware compatibility issues with newer Nikons. If the lens and contacts look good, I'd do some deeper googling for similar problems or just give Sigma a call to see if there are any known issues. Maybe check camera firmware too although newer camera firmware might end up being the problem.

I had to get my Sigma a firmware update when I switched it from the D7000 to the D500, like nick said, newer Nikons will not read them. It was free.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

Yes, ypu need to call sigma and your lens will probably need a trip to Sigma for firmware update. Only certain newer Sigma lenses are compatible with the Sigma dock, which allows self updating of firmware.
