If you are new to photography you absolutely must learn the basics of exposure, also known as the exposure triangle. This will help you the most to enjoy your camera and get up to speed quickly. I really recommend that you do this before even reading the owner's manual. The manual will make much more sense if you understand the underlying principles of exposure. There are no perfect settings, but once you understand 'exposure', you will know how to set your camera. Its not a big learning process. Here are some links to get started:

With the area of photography you're looking at, you will need to get out of Auto sharpish like, and a nice fast f2.8 (or lower) lens wouldnt go amiss. It's a huge learning curve, but persevere and the results will come (eventually;)). Welcome along..

Welcome to the forum. Take pictures with your new camera. Look at the results. Learn the exposure triangle and play with it in manual on the camera. Have fun.

Welcome to the forum

If you are shooting JPG I would suggest that you use the Fine>>Large setting and also set your camera for better sharpness.

Go into your Menus and highlight the "Shooting" menu (the camera icon)

Drop down to "Picture Controls" and click right one time.

From here, highlight "Standard" and then click right one time.

From this settings menu, increase the "Sharpness" setting to "7".

Drop down and increase the "Saturation" setting +1 notch on the slider.

Press "OK" to exit the menus and you're done.

The book “Nikon D3300 for dummies” by Julie Adair King, may prove helpful, but the basics of exposure should be learned first.
