I had something similar on my D3100. It was the Sigma 70-300 APO DG something something something. I can't remember exactly but I didn't really like the results. Looking back though, I probably didn't know what I was doing with it. It had no OS so I was most likely shooting with slow shutter speeds at high focal lengths.
