Video mode (shutter release error)

Hi folks

First time poster here. I need help with an error I keep getting with my Nikon D3100. I've just returned back from holiday and I keep getting the following error message come up any time I try to change to video mode (to record):

'Error. Press shutter release button again.'

I can still take photo's fine - it only seems to be where I want to record video? I've searched high and low on the web and have found nothing that helps with this video mode error. I've done the basics such as taking out the memory card, switching to manual on the lens, taken out the battery and pressed the shutter release hundreds of times but I'm having no luck.

The question I have is, has anyone else had this issue and if so, how did you fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. This is my last call before seeing a specialist.

Best wishes, David

I have the same problem and, like you, have scoured the internet. I've tried the shutter release from the menu and that fixed it for a minute, or it was a coincidence, not sure, but next day same problem and it's not helping today.

Camera was bought from a friend barely used out-of-warranty. I called our nearest service center and without asking too many questions they wanted 180. Heartbreaking, I'm trying to save up for speedlight.
