Google searches say that it doesn't have the infrared to use the remote, even though the d3000 does. I tried to use it, and the camera counted down and made the shutter noise, but no picture saved. Is there any way to use this with the d3100? Thanks
Will this is frustrating. Rather than begin a new thread on an old camera, I revived this one.
Some time ago, I bought my father a (new then) D3100. He just takes family pics really, nothing more than that. Today he was taking a group shot of us and using the self timer. I figured I'd buy him a Nikon ML-L3 remote as the one I have works great on My D40 through my D7100.
Before ordering, I check compatibility first. For some reason this remote is compatible with a D3000 and D3200 but not the bastard D3100 middle child! It is very annoying when companies do things like this
Just venting more than anything really as I hunt for a cheap wireless option for him.
Is anyone using this: JJC setup https://www.amazon.com/JJC-II-JM-M-Wireless-Replaces/dp/B00L5YRNOG
I have one made by Amazon Basics, but when looking to see if it is compatible with the D3100, the answered questions indicate it won't. One comment says a receiver is needed and linked this one that should work for $16.99:
