My new to me D300 has arrived from B&H

Got it from B&H in used (8+) condition. The shutter count is 25K and the major wear is on the image zoom in and zoom out buttons. The prior owner was obviously a devoted pixel peeper. :) Oddly, the package came with an aftermarket battery, and the battery charger had no power cord! I hope it's just misplaced at their warehouse and I can get one shipped to me. Here's a photo of the beastie, sporting a Series E 28mm lens.

All in all I'm neutrally happy. I wish it had a real Nikon battery and the charger is pretty much useless without the cord. The condition is as expected for an 8+ item.

To this day the D300 is a great body, nice addition. Rarely do you find a need for more than 12mp, especially if you primarily deal with online posting.

Hope they get your charger issue sorted out!

The charger can either work with a cord or directly with a plug piece. The plug end can be directly attached to the charger so the cord is not needed.

Congrats on the new camera. I wish Nikon would make a nice, beefed up DX model like that in their current line-up. The pics you posted look great!

Good for you! The D300 is a phenomenal camera....does everything it's supposed to do. You won't be sorry you bought it. I, personally, will never get rid of mine.

If you like, I can send you the D300 Setup Guide. Just PM me your email address and I'll send it off to you, as it's in pdf form. It will give you a starting point to set up your banks.

Congrats on the new camera. I hear a lot about how good the D300 is but I don't know much about them. What does it offer that the D7*** cameras don't? I'm genuinely interested as I see talk of people wanting a replacement for this camera, so there's clearly something the current Nikon line up is missing but I don't know what it is.

I looked in the manual at http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/tnirp/dslr_accesories/DSLR_Charger/MH-18a.pdf and it doesn't mention this plug piece. Is it available someplace as an option?

The charger with my D300 (bought new) does not have the plug in piece, only the power cord.

Later models (D800 in my case) do have the plugin, and the charger is built a bit different, in that the plug in can rotate 90 degrees into either orientation.

So I think you only need a power cord. Hope you locate it. Nikon support possibly might offer one?

Or look here BocaPhoto.com - Nikon Accessories and Parts

(about halfway down page, on left, $10.50). This place seems pricy, but they have lots of small items.

I mentioned the aftermarket battery (does not hold a charge well at all) and charger cord to B&H and they are sending them to me. They are great folks!

Here's a snap of the photos in my new 8x10 project thus far, captured with the D300. No D300 pics in the collection yet but it won't be long!

It's a great camera, and it has a professional build quality, higher than any other Nikon DX models! It has a great feel like the D700, and the controls are totally professional in their setup and arrangement! If you put the new tech inside the D300 body, you'd have the best Nikon DX, a totally pro DX model!
Though I got rid of my D300, I'm still a huge fan of that model! If I didn't have the D700 I would have kept the D300 even though I have the D800E that makes the D300 unneeded! I have the D7100 and though I like the tech, I much prefer the D300 body and configuration! :D

@Wolfeye I hopes this helps explain a bit what a lot of us feel about the D300 vs other DX models! :)

I remember having misplaced one of my charger's cord at some time and using a rechargeable razor cord that worked just OK. I later found the cord. So look around your house and see if you can find a cord that would fit the charger. After all, it's just a connection. The important part is the charger's output for the battery.

The charger I got with my used D300 was a after market one that the plug folds up into the back. Pull it out and plug it into the wall. I got mine from KEH. My battery was a Nikon but the charger was generic. But it works fine.
