Windows 8 upgrade out today - anyone else considering upgrading?

Well, I got my email from Microsoft this morning with the link to download and install the new Windows 8 OS. Because I bought my current desktop just days after the cut-off, I was one of the many people who qualify for a $14.95 version of the software.

But....I've yet to read an article that is not bashing the new OS and from what I've seen so far is that the OS is primarily a touch-screen OS and those of us with such old fashioned devices like a mouse may not like it so much. And then there's the issue of all my current software programs. Do I have to re-install them all over again? And how many of my current programs I use everyday, like LR and PS, will work in Windows 8?

I realize most people are Mac based here (as I was most of my life) but I'm hoping there's a few PC users who are also considering Windows 8. Whaddya think? Should I go for it or stick with Windows 7?

You should probably wait. At least until you get some feedback from Adobe... Almost nothing you own will work with this version. Even Parallels users have been cautioned not to install it on a virtual on a Mac until they've been able to test it and release updated software for it...

That's what I was worried about but I just read a snippet from Adobe that claims all Windows 7 programs, including the CS suites, will run just fine on Windows 8 due to 8 still having a "legacy desktop" embedded in it although MS is trying to move away from the "desktop".

I don't know, the adventurous part of me wants to just roll the dice and go for it but the pragmatic side of me say's wait and do it later....ugh. I think the adventurous side is winning.

:highly_amused: The link lists Apple's Snow Leopard for compatibility. Mountain Lion replaced Snow Leopard in July...

Make sure you have a backup, and can get back to where you started...

Well...the adventurous side won and I'm now downloading the new OS. If you don't hear from me again, you'll all know why! LOL!!!

I have been using the Windows 8 preview for several months. I have been using the Adobe cloud (all latest and greatest Adobe products) for several months now and I have had minimal trouble. The only thing that I have experienced is that when selecting the Developer tab in Lightroom the focus switches back and forth between my second monitor and my laptop monitor extremely fast and I just click on the windows button on the keyboard and after a few seconds it stops, then everything works fine. The OS is the preview, so I expect the final version to be more stable. Fingers crossed.

If you upgrade be careful your current anti-virus works with it - I have heard Norton Anti-virus does not support it. Norton doesn't update often either..

Glad to see you currently like it. I think I will pass for as long as possible.
Not a big fan of the Tablet feel on a PC yet. If I wanted that I would buy a tablet.
