graphics card, resolution, and monitors

I purchased a new computer last week and unfortunately the monitor I got to go with it is not working with the computer.
Maybe I don't understand all this correctly. I believe the monitor I got is too high of a resolution for the maximum output of the graphics card.
Graphics and resolution have changed a lot in the last 10+ years since I stopped tinkering, repairing, and upgrading computers for people. That or possibly my cable is bad? I'd love to know what you would do next.. Do I try and replace cable, or get a different monitor and cable with direct DVI? I get power to the monitor but no connection from the computer to the monitor. I did go in and change my monitor from HDMI to Display Port for the connection. I also made sure the new computers drivers were utd.

Here is the computer, monitor, and cable I got to connect. (adding the specs in case links don't work)

The manufacturer of the computer says the max res on the VGA or DVI is 1920x1200.

You may be correct "The manufacturer of the computer says the max res on the VGA or DVI is 1920x1200. The Velocity series desktops built by Vision Computers". I would assume the DVI-D port is on the mother board? Just looked at the rear from the Amazon site. You should look for a Video cards not for gaming that has at least or higher rez than your monitor.

According to Intel you can run the display at native resolution(3840 x 2160) if you use DisplayPort.
Otherwise either Nvidia 1060 or AMD RX460, But I could not find the max resolution spec for the AMD GPU.

You should NOT buy a workstation card unless you need it as they are significantly more expensive and are ment for CAD work.
Amazon has an MSI Nvidia 1060 6GiB for $300, IIRC The 6GiB is faster (for games) then the 3GiB version; But you may not care for that.

HTH

Edit: Nvidia also have a 1050 & AMD have a RX550, But I am unable to find the full spec list.

Edit2: Any Discrete GPU made by Nvidia/AMD from the last ~2 years should do what you want, Just double check the output specs.
