How to wipe old owner off computer

I bought my beloved a asus laptop and I would restart this computer with my info as it's owner. I believe it is windows 10 if that info helps any. Will pm my phone number if it will make it easier to do this.

Is this doable? If it is, can you talk me through it?

Thanks Don, much appreciated my friend.:)

It worked great buddy. My wife had a home computer but even she forgot the password to log in. Do you have a way to do the same thing without being able to login? Or is that too much going against it?

There is a way but I don't know how. If all else fails take it to your local Best Buy and get the Geek squad to help. You might call them first and ask it the can/will do it and ask how much they will charge you.

If you don't have a password recovery disk, I think you can perform a clean reinstall of the software. That is, if there isn't anything you need on the computer.

Any chance she made a password recovery disk but forgot about it? I think Windows walks you through that process when you first boot it up. If you have all of the original software, it could be with that. It has been over a decade since I used a PC for my own use, and the new windows isn't anything like the old windows.

I bet if you call the Geek Squad like Don suggested and tell them what happened, they will tell you if you need to do a clean install or if they can do something else if you need what is on the computer.

Geek Squad, like Don suggested, could help with the clean install. Which Windows is it (just curious). I bet if you called and told them what happened, they can just advise over the phone unless you need them to do the install if that is what they suggest.

Some computers have the option to do a factory restore so no disk is needed.

@hark...sorry, I was editing my reply when you answered.

That would be great if that option is there. Sounds like the entire computer is locked with a password. When you start talking about booting up in Safe Mode, that is when I exit the building, but it looks like ASUS computers have a way to restore to factory settings while booting up.

Good luck, Bill.

I also see that you can change the Windows password through the Microsoft account if one was opened when Windows 8 or 10 was installed.

I had to do it with a Dell computer that was nothing but trouble. If the computer has already been manually reformatted, I don't think it will work. I don't even think you start in safe mode. When I did it, I think there was a button that had to be held down when booting the computer, but like I said, if the hard drive was already reformatted, most likely it would have wiped that feature.

The computer that needs wiped that I don't have a password for is a old computer(not a laptop nor asus). It needs updated or upgraded.Maybe I could get it reworked into a good photography computer, later sometime if I save up some cash.
