I have been looking for presets for LR5, I have been looking for FREE stuff but most site want my information before I can download any of the free stuff, if they want my email addy etc I do not consider it free.

Anyhow I have now been looking at Nik Collection, and just wanted to know the cost and do I need to have all the items listed on the Google Nik Collection site? like Analog Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, HDR Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Viveza, Sharpener Pro, Dfine or do all of these come as part of the Nik Collection

There is a one-month free trial, so why don't have a go? I think Nik Collection is brilliant and makes processing much faster in comparison to other tools. I like it a lot and use for most of the time. Money well spent.

I also vote for going with Nik tools - As Marek says, there is one month trial available and I'm sure once you do that trial, you will love what the suite can do. All the apps are included in the one price, and you also get upgrades when they are released.

It can be a bit of learning curve with Nik, but there are lots of great You Tube tutorials etc.

I thought everyone had at least one 'spam' email address to use for just such a purpose. Those are free - just sign up :)

I've had an eye on the NIK collection as well, just haven't needed it yet.

The NIK Collection is the entire suite of applications so yes; you'll get everything listed, Color Efex Pro, Viveza, all of it, in one download.

NIK Tools is *so* good in my opinion, I'd practically call it essential. The power of Control Points is a game changer and adds an entirely new dimension to post processing. In all honesty, I'm shocked the NIK Collection doesn't sell for a LOT more than it does.

Paul beat me to it. One single collection that Google has inferred will be a one-time buy, free upgrade forever product. I bought it in 2012 and haven't paid for an upgrade since. Bought Perfect Photo Suite 8 in 2013 and they wanted another $100+ a year later to keep up.

NIK did a lot more self-promotion before Google bought them. There were 3-5 weekly live webinars that really got you into the guts of the product. I suspect this is still happening via Google meetups (or whatever they're called), but I'm not a fan of Google as a data collection giant and have avoided setting up all the accounts required to be notified of these things, so I don't hear about it as much any more, and I suspect that's true of a lot of people. It still doesn't diminish the power of the collection. I hardly finish a photo without using at least one of the tools - if only to know to touch up something with a control point in Viveza because I can do it in 1/5 the time that it would take with a masked adjustment layer in PS.

There are some great Facebook groups for the various products, and they have links to shared Recipes (i.e. filters) for some of the products (Color Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro, primarily).

BTW, I believe the discount codes that used to be prevalent at various endorser sites are no longer there. Still, it's worth every penny.

I use at least one module on every photo. The sharpness settings for it are the best on any program and I use ACR, LR and PS.

Just how does one actually know that there is an update? I had it for about a year now, but I never get any notifications for an update/upgrade.

Well you don't, really, unless you specifically go looking for evidence...

The updates are automatic and appear to happen behind the scenes seamlessly.

when i got mine i used a promo code that i found online which gave me like a $15 discount. don't remember where though but you can google it.

actually i think this was the one i used..
Nik Collection by Google

They're not honoring the discount codes any more, and they don't plan on running any promotions in the foreseeable future... just FYI. (unless they've suddenly kicked them back in recently) Got that directly from an email inquiry to them.

Try the free trial, watch some of the "how to" videos on youtube,

I do like nik tools, once you get the hang of it, you will like it.

I was a naysayer.....until I discovered 'control points', and the power they unleashed. Now, I wished I had never been a naysayer. I will just say if you watch the video on control points you'll be convinced that it is well worth the money. 'nuff said.

Here's a link to the control points that are used in Nik Tools.

I have had many photos that were turned from so-so to favorites by the liberal use of control points. Lately I have been "Grouping" the control points for better and more consistent results.

according to the web site i linked to, there is no longer an Analog Efex Pro. yet i have v2 and i believe i've always had it. i also have 2 Sharpener 3's - one called RAW presharpener and the other Output Sharpener. anybody know what the difference is? when would you use one over the other?

other than that i'm up to date - Color Efex Pro 4, HDR, Silver, Viveza, DFine 2
