Curious to see if anyone has any experiences with the below portable hard drives.

- Western Digital Wireless w/SD card reader
WD My Passport 2TB External WirelessUSB 3.02.0 Portable Hard Drive Black WDBDAF0020BBK-NESN - Best Buy

- Seagate Wireless
Seagate Wireless Plus 2TB Portable Hard Drive Gray STCV2000100 - Best Buy

I like the idea of the WD with card reader for dumping cards and I think we discussed these when they were announced, but dont recall if anyone purchased one or had plans to.

Not this particular model, but I do have a WD My Passport 1TB external. They're a good company and offer excellent customer service. They truly stand behind their products and take care of their customers. I had an issue and they quickly resolved it.

Just curious......... let's say I have a 16g card filled. How long will it take to dump that to the drive over the wifi?

That I dont know, but I would be more interested in the SD card reader built into the WD. The speeds from what I read say if you are in a hurry then dont bother with it. But if are you looking for a Wifi option and dont mind typical wifi speeds then you can't beat these, they are N's. I did skim over some speed test but right off the bat I know that speed isn't something that I am all that worried about. Dont get me wrong, if it takes 24 hours to dump a 16 g card then I would run in the opposite direction.

The tech is kind of what worries me, only one device like the WD on the market that I can find. Is that because there isn't a need or is it because these wifi devices are filling the mobile device backup market. Honestly, just want a rechargeable hard drive that has a card reader in it that can be used without a computer and doesn't break the bank. Might be too much to ask for.

At this point I am leaning towards just getting more SD cards, why ignore something that is tried and true.

I already have an OTW external hard drive, was just looking at these portable ones as an option. Still trying to figure this out as I am going to be gone for around 2 weeks and I want a solid backup for on the road.

Although the battery powered hard drive with card reader is a real nice plus, its just a little too new for me to feel comfortable about jumping on. Still trying to find out if I can replace the hard drive if it fails.
