Edit opacity of a .png image in photoshop

I have an image I have used as a watermark (see below). Looking to adjust the opacity to make it more transparent.

I have Photoshop 7.0

Any ideas? Not finding much useful info online. That or I'm not smart enough to figure it out LOL. Can someone post a play by play or a good link?

Thanks!

Just so I'm clear on what you're asking... You want to make the watermark, and JUST the watermark, appear less opaque in the picture you've posted?

Correct. I want to edit the .png watermark image to be more transparent. When I apply it to an image in Lightroom, it will be more transparent than it appears in the sample image above.

Take the image up in Photoshop and double click on the thumbnail to turn it from "background" to a layer and reduce the opacity and save.

Thanks Dave. When I open the .png with the transparent background and perform the steps above, I edited the opacity to 45% and re-saved the .png under a new name. The result is below :(

It turns the transparent background to white for some reason.

You've done something to the logo that wasn't there earlier. In order for that white to not show up in the original post, it couldn't have been there, so something happened between leaving your original photo to this photo.
Tell me what you did between these steps.
