After a $35 cable because my previous Firewire cable was 6 pin to 6 pin and the laptop has a 4 pin connection, the scanner is back working. It has been a while since I used Nikon Scan 4 so I had to clean out some cobwebs. At 4000 dpi, the 6x4.5 files were 175 MB and the 35mm 74 MB but the quality is superb. The images below really do not come close to doing the originals justice as I went from almost 8700 pixels long on the 6x4.5 and 5600 pixels long on the 35mm down to 1000 pixels and Nikonites reduces them even further. And of course, you can save the files in .net RAW format which is always a bonus
Below is a door at FT Pickens taken with the Hasselblad and 80mm f/2.8 Planar on T-Max 100. File worked out to be a 62MP file. In the original, you can read the "US" on the padlock as clearly as if you were standing next to it:
And this one using the F2S and 105mm f/1.8 on Kodak Gold 200, a so-so quality consumer grade film. I had not been able to find portra in 35mm at the time I did this shoot. The grain is only visible in the image in Photoshop once you get to 75%. I did use digital ICE on this one to eliminate any dust spots or minute scratches. The file here worked out to about 23MP.
