Test shots with the 35mm

Today I did some quick test shots with my new Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX. I waited so long time to buy it. I set my 16-85mm to 35mm and I didn't feel like the 35mm is great for me. But the other day, the 50m was too long. and I decided to buy a 35mm for low light and street as well.

I have to say that the feeling a 35 mm on the cam is much better than I thought and it is much better than set a 16-85mm to 35mm. The Auto focus is fast, the weight is so light. This makes the cam very handy, and feels like the camera is a point and shoot.

Just a few minutes down the street where I live and I felt like a "PRO" :D

Here some quick snaps:

You know at my beginning of photography here in Thailand I was afraid of primes. Let me tell ypou something, since I joined this board I was eager to use primes. And thanks to all of you who posted photos taken with primes, I feel very confident using them as well.

Michael, with your experience growing all the time...these shots are very sharp, and you will realize why the guy that gets a lot of bad press on here really, really likes the 35-1.8. I envy your collection of lenses, and probably will blame future lens purchases on YOU....LOL

Nothing like a prime to give you a different perspective Michael. Keep up your quest. I am very impressed with a lot of your work.

Last test shots. I was just wondering if I can do something like this not using my 16-85m. And the 35mm did so well. I love it a lot.

I know that the 35 gives you a sense of freedom but don't give up your 16-85. In the kind of street photography that you do the 16-85 gives you more framing options and you do such a good job with it. My own 35 is also a macro lens so it does double duty.

I will use my 16-95 for sure. The 35mm is really for me using it at night markets and low light situation.

BTW, Thank you so much for your very kind words.

Very nice sharp pictures. I've had my 50mm f1.8 prime for a few weeks now, like you say, it like a point and shoot camera,
Easy to use and the pictures are very sharp.

This is almost need-to-have lens, but you cant say you dont need your zoom lens, 35mm is not wide enough for indoor I think...
Pictures are fine, but all picts from outside on a sunny day are fine , try something in low-light ...
My sigma is struggling to focus in low light (I am also in process of buying 35mm 1.8g) , so I am curious how this one does..

point and shot- AF great compared to the 50mm at the same subject.

But I will test it for sure in low light. Yesterday at my daughters sport day was the 35mm the only lens I mounted. And it was so fantastic. But honestly I will use my 16-85mm and the Sigma 10-20mm. Those are now in my samll walk around bag.

Yesterday evening I went to the J-Park for dinner. J-Park is an amazing shopping park center. J stays for Japanese. I took 95 photos in very low light in different situation, into windows, fish in water, people sitting in darkness, etc.. I have to say that the lens is definitely my low light lens so far. Where the 50 struggled to set the AF the 35mm hasn't got any problems at all. That is an amazing lens. I am so happy with my gears now. I didn't get any feeling buying something new except the 55-300 replacement. But this is not that important.

I am going to post photos from the J-Park over the next days in my Photowalking-Thailand Thread

Just one shot of my daughter for you guys. She wanted that I post this photo. She just wanna say hello to all Daddy's Nikonites friends

She is an absolute cutie!

Question for you Michael...the bamboo looks to be some type of fence or partition. Is that a paved path on the other side or water? It's hard to tell. Do they use bamboo a lot for this type of thing?
