Not sure whether you used an 18-55mm or a 55-200mm (or 55-300mm) lens, but a wider aperture would have blurred the background a little more (either f/4.5 or f/5.6). And you mentioned the shot was cropped. If possible, I would have liked seeing a little more space on the left edge of the photo as the deer could be moved over to the right slightly (to place it on the Rule of Thirds). That would have cut down on the excess room on the right side of the photo a little.
What I'm about to say is humorous, but my reason is genuine...the deer looks like it is farting a bush.
What I mean is the bush is too much in focus for my preference, and I would like to see a little more separation between the bush and the deer. How might that be accomplished? If you had used a shallower depth of field, possibly the bush would be blurred more. OR...maybe if you had taken a few steps to your right, perhaps there would be a little space between the back end of the deer and the bush. Just a little constructive criticism. All-in-all a nice shot as it is.
