I think that you are finding out the hard way that producing great photography is not as simple as "I'll just get that camera and I'm good to go". There is a long learning curve and even with all the settings others will recommend, you'll have to experiment before you get the results you desire. The main problem being that when you first start you don't know what you want exactly or, when you see other's pictures that you'd like to imitate, you have absolutely no clue about the work that went into them. Preparation is an essential part of great pictures.
