Is "Banding" A Real Issue?

After some careful consideration, I was able to free up some additional funds and went with the D7200 after all. Thanks again for your input.

Congratulations,at first there where a lot of people saying not worth it,now more and more are using it and its starting to show its worth.
I've noticed the same problem with underexposed images. If I remember correctly, it is caused by the lack of a low pass filter on the sensor. The only way that I have been able to somewhat compensate for the banding problem is by using Photoshop and using a Gaussian blur layer (set to color blend mode) and I use a radius value that is the same as the width of the banding; I get that radius value by using the measurement tool to measure the distance between individual bands.
