Don't know if any one has posted this bit of history.
Feb 14, 1849, The first photograph of a U.S. President was taken by Matthew Brady in New York City. President James Polk was the subject of the picture.

I was reading a book about Brady recently. It is interesting that he was primarily a gallery owner/photo studio with hired help. He preferred selling the images, and socializing, and left most of the picture taking to his staff. Even the vast majority of his Civil War pictures were created by his hired help.
