AE-L / AF-L without having to hold the button continiously?

On the D5100 is there a way to engage the AE-L / AF-L and keep it engaged without having to constantly hold the button?

Check page 44 of the online ref manual. Is this what you're looking for?

Its easy. Hit menu, on left go to Custom Setting Menu, the Pencil, scroll to Controls, then go to f2 Assign AE-L/AF-L button, scroll to AE lock (HOLD), hit OK. Now the button will stay on hold until you push it again.

My wife would simply chalk it up to my "always overlooking things" but I honestly had searched this out before asking the question.
