Z9 Announced

Ricci put together an announcement video. The Z9 is way out of budget, but I am kind of anxious to see what the are going to come out with.

Will they really be able to put together the replacement for the single digit D model Nikons.

At the end of the video Ricci asks for input. What would you like to see in the Z9?

They should work on getting the Z7ii available before starting another camera.

You realize manufacturing and R&D are completely different parts of the company, right?! I have friends with the Z7ii and there are dealers who have them. Covid has screwed every manufacturer's supply chain so this isn't a Nikon issue. BTW, the ii's are a "head and shoulders above" improvement to the originals.

As for the Z9, I love everything about it except the larger footprint and the price. The main thing for me is the no-blackout viewfinder. If they can build a Z8 with a 20-something MP sensor, 12-15fps and no blackout for $3K-ish or less, I'm there.

I think the Z9 will be the camera for the pros. They really have made so many improvements to the original Zs and second generation versions. Of course many of the talking heads will still trash the but those that Tate the time to get to understand the system will love them.

I do hope they can get the supply chain issues resolved. That is a pain.

As a side note, supply chain issues are affecting every industry all around the globe. We have even had problems getting the special cat food we need for one of our cats! LOL.

The Z9 looks like it will be a great camera for certain pros and others with a big budget. I hope the technology "trickles down". :)

Woody, if it's prescription cat food, have you tried ordering from Chewy?

The Z9 definitely looks interesting. Nikon is really rolling with mirrorless bodies! :)

As far as Nikon's announcement for the Z9, I believe that it was done to give pause to those Nikon users who were ready to jump on the recently released Sony and Canon high-end mirrorless cameras. I was out this week with two people who recently switched from Nikon DSLRs; one has changed to the Sony and the other to Canon, and each said that they would have held up on their purchase if they had known of the Nikon Z9. If Nikon "delivers" with the Z9, will they come back? One of them is a possibility, but the other is now in the Sony mirrorless camp for a long time to come. Will others jump from Canon or Sony to the Z9? I'm sure that Nikon hopes so.

Good point on the Nikon timing to keep some customers who might have been lured by the new Sony and Canon offerings. I suspect that they want this camera ready for the Olympics as well.

Many will not be able to afford this new body, but with the possibility of improved tech for the more moderately priced bodies in the future, I suspect this will help keep some people in the Nikon camp, as well.

Nikon really needs to get the pros back into their camp. People see all of the "Canon White" lenses at events and buy Canon products because they assume they are better because they see more professionals using them. (I bought my first Nikon, an FM, because the pros I knew primarily used and recommended Nikon gear.) Maybe this will help Nikon in this regard.
