z5 or z6 or z6 mark 2

I am a longtime user of fuji xt-2 and D750

I am upgradiing to something like xt-2 with D750 electronics

I am 65 and only snapshots of landscape and flowers in Norway

As fuji xt-4 and z5 are similar in price, that is a tough choice

Now, the z6 is lowered in price and at a lower price tha these two

I have no idea what to choose. One thing I know, z6 mark 2 I cannot afford

My local photo dealer just offered me Z5 plus ftz plus 24-70 lens for just a few bucks more than z6 plus ftz
I almost jumped at that one.

Photos like so. My camera on my neck and a big rucksack. Cant have a big D750 w 24-120 -- this is taken with xt-2 and 16-80 fuji lens
What I miss is more and better electronics to cope with evenings/ low lights conditions, or make better photo with higher din
and a better af system - xt-2 isnt struglling, but often not really coping with the situations.

I recently made the decision to upgrade to the Z6 with those 3 cameras on my short list. You can't go wrong with any of these cameras. If you get the Z6, you must include the cost of the XQD or CFExpress card, (not cheap) and XQD card reader, (also not cheap, but also not necessary if you want to hook your camera up to your computer instead but you have to do firmware updates through the mobile app, snapbridge if you don't have the card reader). The Z6ii gives you the option, it has both XQD and SD slots so a new card does not need to be included with the initial purchase, and the same with the dual SD card slots in the Z5. Like you, I didnt see a need to spend so much on the Z6ii. If you are not interested in shooting video and don't mind loosing the screen on top of the camera that tells you the same info you see in the EVF, go with the Z5. It does just about everything else the same as the Z6 in a cheaper bundle and you don't need the special card. The framerates are even the same. True, the Z6 takes more of them but after 5.5 FPS, you start to see the previously taken photo in the EVF instead of live view and since the Z5 caps out at 5.5 FPS, that's a wash in my book. Personally, I went with the Z6 because my daughter is still in school sports and I wanted to have full frame video rather than having the video cropped 1.7x on the Z5. It sounds like that deal your photo dealer made you was right up your alley though. Good luck with whatever you choose. It will be the right decision!

I forgot you had the Z6 TT.

Just another side note, that 24-70 is a fantastic lens! Nothing about the 24-50 interested me and the 24-200 kind of defeats the purpose of having a compact mirrorless system, (unless traveling or something and only want 1 lens, then its the best option). I've since added the 14-30 f4 as well. Pairing these two lenses with my 70-300 AF-P 4.5-5.6 using the FTZ adapter is a very small, very lightweight kit from 14-300. Only missing a fast prime and/or a macro.

24-70

Can you carry it all day unlocked ?

As a 24-120 is

You can, nothing is going to happen, just be careful not to bump it when extended. It seems most secure retracted, and I've just gotten into the rhythm of unlocking it before the shot. Also, the camera goes into sleep mode when you retract the lens. If the lens is extended, the screens can stay on, (the camera goes into sleep mode after a short while, but can be tricked into waking up unintentionally) draining the battery. There is a button on the side of the EVF you can cycle the screens on or off, and fully off is an option, if that's how you want to set it up to preserve the battery life. I always retract the lens, pop the cap on and turn the camera off til the next shot.

Got an offer on a Z6 with 24-70 with a 32 gb xqd card
6000 exposures, looks very nice

About 1500 NOK less than that brand new z5 with 24-70 lens kit

So?

You will not be disappointed with the Z6 Borga. It is a great camera, and that lens is not a traditional "kit lens." It is a premium Z mount offered with the Z 6 at time of release. The Z mount lenses with an S in the model number are the premium Z mount lenses. I had that lens for 2 years and just upgraded to the f2.8 version only because I do a lot of indoor photos at my church and light is very erratic. The f2.8 gave me a bit more flexibility. I think you will like the combo. It is a bit lighter and with the 24-70 f4 it does pack easily in less space.

Make sure that it has the latest updates and ask for at least one card. The XQD cards or CFExpress are expensive, but I have 2 32 Gig and I never fill one little alone both.

I wish you well.

Congratulations on your new camera! If landscapes are what you typically shoot, that lens might surprise you. Looking forward to seeing more of your pictures.

Big daddy?

Well, I never got an F4, just left Nikon with a Nikon F3 HP from 80ies until 2002.
And returned when D750 arrived, after some year I found it to heavy got a Fuji xt-2

Now then the Z5. At first look it gave back the F3 feel and touch.
But what it is - it is a D750 in a XT-2 size
And that trills me enormously

Havent shot a frame yet, tomorrow is the day for that
Still unable to update firmware, feeling stupd now….

The 24-50 isnt just another plastic lens, Im starting to fall in lowe with it
such a tiny package with all them possibilities.

And the cf card, no stupid xqd I cant afford.

Looking good!

Edit:

The touchscreen - mmm I might be too old and to large fingers, but hey the playback worked like a charm,
even with my large finger that worked like on my Ipad!

And the holy grail THE FINDER
I really didnt why I needed to upgrade from the XT-2
now I know that one is like an old Canon G3 «hole»

while this Z5 is a giant leep, real SLR enviroment and enjoy to beold
clear and crisp and crisp numbers and letters!
Maybe not all that HP but this is the real dealbraker for me!

I thought you might get a kick outa that lens, by the way you spoke of the small form factor of fuji. Glad you are thrilled! If you have questions about the firmware updates, just ask. It's nothing to feel stupid about but you really should have a solid understanding of what needs to be done in what order before attempting it. It's a straight forward process that Nikon does a good job walking you through the steps, but doing it for the first time can feel intimidating. If it's something you want someone else to do though, your camera store may be able to do it for you. See if they can walk you through the steps so you can see how its done. Keep in mind that Nikon has been doing a pretty good job giving firmware updates to Z cameras, so familiarizing yourself with the process can minimize the times you need to run into the camera store just to have the firmware updated.

I would recommend watching some YouTube videos to get an idea, and/or ask a friend that is more familiar with camera's in general. As well as that TT said

That was an easy fix….

Fuji has switched the slots …..

So - as per usual I put the mem card with the bin file
in the slot nearest to me, nearest to backside

It didnt work not after the tenth try….

Then I started to read the numbers

Ouch, I was trying to upgrade from slot 2

Lesson learnt.

oh - yes I have the latest fiirmware now, from slot 1
