Len recommendation for Z6

Hi,

I am looking for a len to pair with the Z6 body. I mainly use the camera for taking family photos in daily life and during travel.
So mainly portraits (indoor + outdoor), landscape portraits.

I see the kit lens for z6 is[h=1]NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S[/h]

But i see there is a new len coming out

I think both can zoom and both can zoom out at the same distance (24mm0.
So I am looking for which lens i should get for my usage.

The 24-70 f4 S is a great lens. This lens is not a traditional "kit" lens. It is a quality lens and carries the S designation indicating that it is the premium lens for the Z platform. I think you could do very well with this lens if you are happy with the limited focal length. The 24-200 is also a very good lens. There is a guy that does very balanced reviews of Nikon lenses on Youtube. His page is Ricci Talks. He just did a review comparing the two lenses you are considering. I think it would be worth your while to take a look at the review. Below is a link. The 24-200 could be a good choice. The only drawback is the variable aperture.

I got the “kit” 24-70:f4
After researching long and hard, I opted not to get the z 24-70 f2.8
The 2.8 receives fabulous reviews, and without a doubt it’s the best 24-70 on the market today, beating the previous best, the F 24-70 Nikon. It’s incredibly sharp throughout. However, as an amateur, the price and extra stop, isn’t justified in so far at the kit f4 is 1/4 the price of the 2.8! Also, my f4 appears pretty sharp throughout its focal range, perhaps not quite so sharp in the corners and edges, but that’s no issue for me.

On the roadmap are longer focal lengths.i have the 70-200 f2.8 S on order ... hoping for a July delivery. There are a couple of longer ones too for 2021.
Of course, as you know, the choice depends on your needs, but for me, the f4 z 24-70 is just superb.

It depends on if you really need the extra reach and if you're ok with the narrower/variable max aperture. If so, then the 24-200 would be an alright choice. If 70mm is long enough for you and image quality is a priority, the kit lens will probably be the better choice since the kit lens is part of the Z-mount "S" line of lenses which are higher-end and the 24-200 is not.

Just got a Z6 with the 24-70 kit lens and FTZ adapter. Adapter works great with the 70-300 AF-P, (full frame variant) and several other full frame lenses including old school AF-D, (manual focus only but with added vibration compensation ends up working better than on DLSR) but was very disappointed to find out when a DX lens is attached, the camera AUTOMATICALLY kicks it into DX mode with no way to override. On my ancient D800, I could choose between DX or FX when a crop lens was attached, not so with the Z6. Wouldn't be a problem but I intended to use the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 which is a DX lens but shoots without clipping corners at 16mm so is a 16mm f2.8 prime on my D800 and its SHARP! Now, if I want to use that lens on the Z6, it kicks it into DX and my resolution drops to something like 10.6MP. That is not conducive to night time landscape shots. My other wide angle lens is the Tamron 15-30 F2.8 V1 which I was going to sell with the D800. It fits the FTZ adapter, but will not autofocus and acts weird on the camera. More testing is needed, but I am not holding my breath it will work sufficiently or consistently. A little irritating that something that can be fixed with a firmware update will never see the light of day so they can push native glass.
