Nikon Z 6 and Techart Sony E – Nikon Z Adapter (TZE-01) Initial thoughts

I had the Sony mirrorless system for a while and last year got the A7R III and the A7III and invested quite heavy into the Sony lenses. When Nikon announced the Z series it got intrigued because I haven't used a Nikon since film days and always wanted to try Nikon to see. When I was offered the opportunity for a refurb Nikon Z 6 for $1350 I said why not and due to a mishap I ended up with a free Techart TZE-01 adapter. This is what I found so far:

Pros:
-Fast AF
-Works like it does on Sony body

Neg:
-Adapter was tight and had to use a bit of force mounting it.
-Releasing the lens is a bit difficult since the release is a prong like mechanism.

I don't have any native Z glass tot est with but so far it's great. At 2mm thick you don't even notice there is an adapter on there.

JPG straight out of camera with my Sony 55mm 1.8. Looks pretty good.

That does look good. Pretty cool. Looks like you're off to a good start. This is off topic, but did you do the firmware updates on the body. There have been 3. The latest is 2.01. You can get them from the Nikon site under downloads, but you do need the card reader.

Yup got the card reader Friday and upgraded it to 2.01. All my Sony and Tamron lenses seem to work natively with this adapter. Haven't found anything missing focal length wise. Not to play around with my Leica lens on this and see...

That is very cool. I have not really spoken with anyone coming to the Z6 with a significant amount of Sony glass. That is very interesting. I am glad you are enjoying th camera.

Looks like I can't use the techart adapter with a plain FD to E mount adapter or Leica M to E adapter that doesnt have electronics.

After a few more days with this I realized it's a bit finicky. I would have to reset the camera and clean the contacts on the adapter. Considering what it is and what it does I would still recommend it if you don't need it in a professional setting like you don't have 1 minute to spare between switching lenses. There could be an issue when swapping lenses but not always the case.
