Thom Hogan Review of the Nikon Z 6

I just read a review by Thom Hogan of the Z6. It was very well balanced and very thorough. I have never read any of his reviews before and I have to say it was one of the most detailed I have ever read.

If you are thinking about the Z6 or Z7 you probably want to read this review. Forget all you might have seen by Tony and Chelsea or that angry guy. This guy explains things well including the positives and negatives of the focus systems and low light performance.

It is long and detailed, but worth the time if you are thinking of making the jump.

Thom has a reputation for being very complete in his assessments, and some would say he goes overboard. But, I like his straight forward, scientific approach. He doesn't play with the camera for a day or two and make a decision, like so many others with today's rush to be the first to get a review out crowd. Thanks for the link, Dan!

Your welcome Woody. I thought he was very even handed in his review. His discussion of the focus strengths and limitations was pretty spot on. I think It is better at tracking than he stated, but I think that comes down to subject being tracked.

Thank you for the link to his review. I've read Thom Hogan's reviews for several years, and his advice and opinion are worth heeding.

I'm just going to give a shoutout to another reviewer, Dustin Abbott, who I don't think is as well known. He's more of a Canon shooter, and doesn't review Nikon glass specifically, but he does review a lot of third party glass, accessories, etc.

More importantly in my opinion is that his gear reviews, both written and online, are thorough (like, whoa), yet refreshingly free of theatrics, hyperbole and attention-whoring which seem to be the bread-and-butter of way too many online reviewers these days. I also find his photography to be quite good which, while not a requirement for me when considering the validity of a reviewer, I do find reassuring.

He's also Canadian, but I'm willing to overlook that. ;)

As a Canadian, I can confirm that it makes a big difference. In a good way. ;)

As for the review, I've never read anything of Hogan's before but I decided to try it out for this and I was impressed by his review. Might have to look at more of his stuff. He definitely goes into A LOT of detail. I think he actually surpasses Steve Perry in that regard, and that's saying something but it might be a bit too much detail imo.
