new firmware 2.0 AND a recall for your Z6 and Z7...

I checked my Z6 and it is not in the recall. I hope it is something simple that they found. Even those that were caught up in the recall were saying that they saw no issues with their cameras. I am cautiously optimistic.

I monitor a lot of Nikon oriented forums and have yet to hear of anyone having a problem with their IBIS. Several sent theirs in and had no work done, just checked and cleaned. But one posted the repair order that said they replaced some module, without being specific, then cleaned and adjusted. I suspect that the issue was a supplier of a subassembly had delivered a suspect few that did not fully meet spec but there was no indication of how many were actually underperforming so had to check all the cameras sent out from the time period. They may have been overcautious and opened the company to bad press by the many paid influencers who are targeting Nikon, making things up or just misstating the facts. There is big money flowing to those who can drive sales to a company and who can drive sales away from other companies.
I figure that anyone who really needs some non-photographer youtube personality to tell then what to buy is probably not ready for any new model. Believing some of these youtube personalities means they deserved to be misinformed.

The update is for correcting a rare problem when using very a specific combination of settings, where the AF slows down. No one on a large Nikon site I am moderator for has been able to reproduce it. Nikon says the slow down is very rate even with the listed combination of settings so it is not likely to have any impact one anyone's use of the camera. I tried to reproduce it but no luck..I wanted to see it in action. It is nice that Nikon is taking the promise to frequently update the firmware has been kept.
The expected update for the CFExpress is being delayed is appears since CFExpress cards are delayed in release. So it is likely that two major feature releases will be available this fall, the CFe compatibility and the 12 bit ProRes RAW out HDMI video. That is pretty exciting.
The announcement of the 70-200 2.8 S is expected before winter, a lens that is highly anticipated as being the best 70-200 made. The 85 1.8S, another popular release will hit stores this fall. So good things coming for the Z cameras, including an review of the Z8 pro..

I have to say I have enjoyed the fact that Nikon is not waiting on firmware updates. It is refreshing to see them be so responsive. i was glad to see the 85 1.8 announcement as well I am going to go ahead and preorder it. All l am waiting for now is the 70-200 f2.8.

I like the good news.

The lens roadmap is filling in with the most needed lenses and once the 70-200 2.8 S will really finish the initial phase y having a world class Trinity. After using the 24-70 2.8 for a week, as a rental, convinced me that none of the camera brands have a better core pro set of working lenses. It is that good. The 70-200 2.8 will be the best short telephoto zoom on the planet. The f/4 initial lenses at modest prices were very encouraging and the first 1.8 primes makes me not miss the 1.4 models that are missing.
To help finance the 85 1.8, 70-200 2.8 and Z7(or Z8) means selling off my big investment in F glass. That includes 15 fast quality Nikkors and a few Sigma and a very good Tamron 15-30 2.8 that satisfies my WA zoom lens need. The 14-30 f/4 is excellent but not its not needed to replace the Tamron.
The Z8 rumors are getting more active and concrete from sources which have been spot on in the recent past suggests a high res pro camera. I have a need for a high res body only for clients who demand the large files(mostly product and fashion) or lose out on some current client's work since selling off the D850. Since late Jan I have only been shooting the Z6 for all portrait sessions and casual hobby shooting. 24mpx is plenty for quality portraits. Too much detail detracts from good portraits. I still have a D800 which I always thought was the sweet spot for resolution at 36mpx and in good light, does a great job. But it gets lonely sitting on the shelf 95% of the time. So depending on the actual specs and price. my high res camera will be either a Z7 or Z8. I don't see a great need for the 61mpx rumored but if it is less than $4k it is strong contender. If it is higher, a Z7 would be the logical alternative. All that could be covered by selling off the F lenses except for a few specialty lenses. I have two 24-70 2.8, a G and E version and the E cost more than a new Z when new and it does not get used at all. I got it solely due to its VR but optically inferior to the older G non-VR. My most used lens is the 70-200 2.8 that will not be needed after the S version is available.
Lots of exciting changes in my kit coming this winter.
