i have temporary set the Z6 to shoot Raw (NEF) and jpeg, when i upload them i see the jpegs but not the Raw file, the Raw files are there but black. i have Nikon Capture NX-D which did all the raw files on the D500, do i need to download a different file for the Z6??

Or have i to set something on the camera.

The first thing you should do is, depending on which OS you use, (Windows or Apple) is download the appropriate Codex to view NEF files from Nikon... That allows Explorer or Finder to see your NEF files without any added programs...

The next thing is to use editing software that supports the Z6... as BF Hammer points out you'll need to download and install the newer versions of Nikon's free software if you want free...

The third option is to use commercially available software (you pay something)...

If you plan on editing them in Photoshop, Camera RAW, or Lightroom, be sure to download the latest version of Camera RAW, too.

I doubt that I have any information that will be relevant consider my camera is about 4 generations back. It will be you assisting me if I should ever make the jump to something newer. :)
