55-300 DX lens with FTZ adapter on Z50
What are possible compromises with using my DX 55-300 lens on my Z50 with the FTZ adapter, looks like everything should work well with no surprises.
Carrying this one step further, what would be the result of using an FX lens on the FTZ adapter with the Z50? I would assume that the crop factor would still be present, but how would that work with a mirrorless DX camera?

Not having a FTZ or mirrorless I can only comment on what I have read. The adapter is mainly a spacer with electronics so the camera can communicate with the lens. So the lens will preform similar to how it would preform on dlsr with a similar sensor. Most people indicate a slower but more accurate focus. Now maybe someone who has real experience can comment.

In transitioning from F mount glass to Z Mount I used all my F mount glass with the FTZ adapter without any hassles, except for the few that did not have focus motors. I still am using my 70-200 f2.8 Tamron G2 and 200-500 f5.6 Nikon with the FTZ adapter and both work great. After all the adapter is simply a tube with the electronics run through it to manage the AF and Aperture.
The only thing that I have found is after using Z lenses for a while when I do use an F mount they sound really loud compared to the Z mount. But that is only because the Z lenses are so quiet. The F mount lenses sound the same on my D700 as they do on my Z6 with the FTZ.
As for running FX lenses on the adapter... no different than running FX on any Crop Sensor. You will have the crop factor.
Hope this helps.Last edited by Danno; 12-31-2020 at 03:03 PM.
