Thought it was interesting that Ricci released a video on this just a few hours ago. Interesting results.

Some aspects about what you would expect, some the Z50 has done better than you might expect.

Now for me it would get more interesting if the Z6 had been shot in DX mode, as i know the Z6 would handle noise better i would have chosen it had i not known i would be cropping my images a lot of the time, this was the main reason i didnt stay with the D750, full frame was excellent but cropped down to the size i often cropped my D7200 to not so good.

Mike, you know that is a good question. I went ahead and posed it to Ricci in the comments. Maybe he will do another video. He is usually pretty good about answering questions about stuff on the Z platform.

Mike this was Ricci's reply... basically the "in camera" crop of the Z 6 leaves with half the megapixels.

Ricci Talks replied: "The Z6 cropped will be 10mp. When you crop a Z6 it still takes a full frame shot then processes the crop so the final image noise performance “should” be the same."

I dont think he has understood my point, he is correct i would not expect the characteristics of the sensor to change on the Z6 just because i shot in crop mode, but and this is my point doing so he would end up with a 10mp file, shooting the same image on the Z50 would give a 21.5mp file.

If you then cropped both in PP to the same size i am pretty sure the Z6 file would not hold up as well as the Z50 hence the reason many birders shoot DX.

The better comparison would have been with the Z7 as there you would at least have apples to apples with sensor size (46MP's is 20.4MP in DX). That's what I get with my D500 and it's why I'm on the fence with swapping over to mirrorless at this point, waiting to see/hear what the specs on the Z8/9 will be - though at the current holiday pricing I'm really wondering if I want to wait or not. But I just dropped a boat load on the 500mm and I believe my 6 year old MacBook Pro is screaming for an upgrade, so I'll be patient.

I would hope that the Z7's sensor would easily top the Z50's given the difference in cost/tech.

My brain has a cramp now.
