Had a quick session with the new set up, looks promising obviously the AF is not up to D500 ability but who expects it would be.

Got myself in a bit of a mix, keeping the right amount of zoom and focus point in the right place, need to practice a bit more.

Up to now ime not overly impressed with the 100-400, i do have some tuning i can do though, i have the focus set to fast which Sigma say can be less accurate, i shot everything wide open,i can check AF fine tune as i tend to use AFC all the time, there was something else but i forget things sometimes :D it will come back.
Just remembered go back onto single point focus.

I was wondering if the lens might be more the culprit than AF. I had a sigma art series lens years ago and the adjusting for accuracy drove me nuts. Loved the lens when it was dialed in, but life is too short....,

Well it looks as though F8 is a bit better, I changed the focus speed back to normal and that was a mistake far too slow, I couldn't change it back while I was out as it needs the computer and dock, so thats the next step.

Perhaps not that obvious but i think i have a bit of back focus on it, at least with the Z50 it looks easy to sort, none of this auto fine tune.

Well i can't get what i want out of the Sigma 100-400 at the moment, i know it will never give Nikon lens IQ but its inconsistent and mostly underperforming. What i think i have tracked it to is if the focus mode is one that the camera has any choice in the focus point used. This is not a problem area with the Nikon 50-250 and circumstances at the moment have meant a lot of shooting has been done in and around the golden hour which i don't like for my type of shots.
Think i may put the Sigma to one side and use the Nikon for a while.

Been giving the 100-400 another chance, its not good i think i may send it back to Sigma for checking, i know what these lenses can do and this one is just not doing it.

Ok this was with the D500 but it tends to show what this lens can do and why i have kept trying with it.
