Just watched a good review by Steve Perry on this lens. It sounds amazing... But I think I am more apt to buy a Z9 or maybe a Side by Side than this lens. But the review does show this to be a pretty amazing lens.

At only $6500. That's close to the total for the purchase price of every car I've owned in the last 50 years. Excluding family cars.

By Nikon telephoto prime lens standards, the price is about in line. But I can't see the price as appealing for an f/6.3 lens. But yes, still a bit less than a 500mm f/4.

Well, consider that the 800mm 5.6 for FX (usually a little cheaper than the z mount) is $16K. That's only a half stop more.

To be picky, it's a third of a stop. :)

You are exactly right, this lens is actually very inexpensive for what it is. Nikon is clearly in a price war with Sony and Canon, and are undercutting them in several areas right now.

That being said, I certainly don't have the money for a Z9 and this lens. Fortunately, I'm quite happy with the gear I have now. :)

Here is a follow-up from Steve. He really seems to like this lens. It has been a while since I have heard him speak so highly of a new lens. $6500 really is not that bad for this kind of lens, especially at rollout. I would not be bothered using it on a Z6II.
@Woodyg3 with that 500 pf 5.6 you have a pretty amazing setup... I am kind of excited about trying to get the 200-500 f5.6 out with the new tripod. The tripod is about a third the weight of the old one with the new ball head or Gimbal and taking some weight out of the Z6 compared to the D700 or D7200 with grips has made a difference for me. Now just to get out of the house... ;)

You are right, that lens would be great on any of the Z cameras.

I do love my 500 PF/D500 set-up. The best camera and lens I have ever owned. :)

The new tripod sounds great. I am jealous. Get out and have some fun with your new toys! Spring is a great time for photography, Dan. :) :) :)
