In California, doubtful you will come across one. But cross to the east of Mississippi River and nearly every wooded area has a population now due to conservation efforts. Once while geocaching I was confronted by an agitated tom. I took great pleasure in ordering turkey for dinner later that night at a restaurant. Hope it was his cousin. ;)

We have a few turkeys in our area. I saw four of them near a wooded area close to William Penn's homestead a couple months ago. And a few years ago, there was one that had a few little ones. The turkeys took up residence in a residential area. Every once in a while they were seen crossing a road to a new residential section. But eventually the little ones were killed by vehicles. No idea whatever happened to the adult.
