14 Point Buck

I got some shots from behind from this huge buck and was not satisfied. So I kept going around to where he would come. And the other night he was there for about 20 minutes posing for me numerous times. I just wish I had my D600. Since my D300 only gives me a good shot of about 1-2 for every 10. I just kept firing at this guy. I took over 300 shots and this is how many turned out. At least I got these. Some angles you only see 12 or 13 points. but when you see various angles you will notice 14. Some are small ones of just a few inches coming off others.

Beautiful!

I have a question (Aussie here, deer aren't native here) do their antlers grow each year and fall off and renew each year or are they there for the life of the animal and just continue to grow and get bigger each year?

They are antlers. So they drop them each year. And each year they grow larger.

Horns are what the animals keep and grow each year.

Hope that helps and is clear.

Thanks Bill, that's something I never knew the answer to.

There's a fair bit of a population of wild deer (feral) of different species around me, but their antlers are something that I have always wondered about. Amazing that they can grow so big in a year.

Thanks for the info.

Nice captures, by the way, is that private or public land that this monster buck was on.
