I have a colleague specialised in butterfly photography (he is now also doing a photography academy) and asked him how you find the caterpillars; he stated he had given up.
So I guess it is like my mantis a few weeks ago, you need to look a lot where you expect them and one day (unpredictable) you will find them.

Time to wake up this thread.

I have no idea what species of caterpillar this is. Any one know?

Closest I could locate is "Oleander Moth".
Looking for your bug, I discovered the name of a bug I saw when shooting cicadas. I shot a couple images, but they weren't all that interesting, so I deleted them.
Glad it didn't fall on me. Turns out it was a poisonous asp caterpillar. It was furry, and I had no idea it was a caterpillar. I will look, maybe I kept an image. I don't think I did, though.

EDIT: Found it in the trash. I labeled one image as "worm" and another as "caterpillar." My memory fails me more each day.
Is this the poisonous "Asp" or is it something else? I am pretty sure it is a "southern flannel moth" larvae based on what I remember the markings look like on its back.

Thanks CS. Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember shooting one of these some time ago.

This just in from Butterflies and Moths of North America - Polka Dot Wasp Moth
aka Oleander Moth
Your sighting has been accepted, and your regional coordinator has verified your submission as _Syntomeida epilais_. Your sighting is now represented on the map on the species page: https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Syntomeida-epilais. The sighting details page is available here: https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/sighting_details/1151355.

That is neat. I like the wildlife sites that track species.
