Bird station no. 2

Yesterday i put together another bird feeder. This one is for the front yard. Nothing fancy, we're messy people so to us that's good enough.
The back deck is good, but there are different birds that don't come around the back deck. Plus, the props on the deck have been shot a lot. The feed troughs have to be metal all the way into the box or the squirrels will chew them out.
Should be fun, hopefully they'll get busy out front in short order. ;)

looking good, and just in the right spot to get some good shots.

Thanks Paul, going to wait on setting any props for now. Plus, i don't want cut limbs in photos so i got to see where they want to land before dropping in to the feeder. I left slack wire on it for now in case i need more for height adjustment.

Well, the leaves all around the feeder caused the lighting to be far less than desirable and caused a lot of poor shots because of the leaves. Learning to use the Big Gun (Tamron) is a lesson in light and as a result most of the leaves had to go!
Also put a perch on the feeder itself. It took a few days for some birds to find it and have to make some small changes, but i think it's going to work out. One of the reasons for the bird station 2 was all the different birds i see in front of the house vs the back deck. Might have to do a small amount of lens tuning with the 7200 as well.

I believe this is a Prothonotary Warbler. Beautiful bird. Hope to see more of them

Had to modify the line used to hang the feeder; using two separate lines spread apart to keep the feeder from spinning. Trimmed some limbs to let some light in and then the clouds rolled in. It's cool to see different birds at this spot. Not sure what the brown bird is called.

Since the bottom of the bill doesnt appear to be bicolored and the eye ring cant really be said to have any white .. Im thinking its a young eastern phoebe. ( but thats a really a tricky group of birds)

Great set-up and shots! I've always thought about setting up a blind on a bird feeder, but dumb ol' redneck that I am, never considered setting up "natural" shots so I could catch birds without the feeder in the background as well. Thanks for opening my blind eye!! I have a feeling I'll be "twigging" up the ol' feeder this weekend, if the rain ever stops.

Thank you, it's been a lot of fun trying to shoot the little guys. Just started this year so it's a bit of a learning process. I'll post a pic of my "hide" in a day or so. lol.

These shots turned out pretty good, but the majority of the photos i get from this feeder are lacking in IQ; due to the tree canopy causing less than ideal lighting and also my difficulty in figuring out how to process photos from the 7200.
I took for granted how good i have it on the back deck with the good light.

Station no. 2 took a hit from the squirrels so it's been getting a makeover. So in the meanwhile station no. 3 is born. :)
Is it possible to over crop a bird? For some reason i find it hard to get a quality shot of a finch, don't know why maybe they got a "vibe" that makes them come out blurry. lol. So when this one came out good i was kinda proud and cropped the heck out of it.

Had to remove my bird station, bees took a liking to it, and the last thing I need in the garden is a bees nest.

will put it back up in autumn, ready for the colder weather.

Almost wish the bees would show up here and run the squirrels off..... Almost.

No. 2 is back in operation now. Looks like he's singing a song in all his glory, but really he's getting ready to attack another bird if it tries to get his sunflowers.
