    Fox squirrel ,which are an introduced species in SoCal. Have half a dozen at the house that squabble over nuts every morning. They are the predominant species at the local parks now, but there's a good population of grays, too -- they just don't like posing.

    Thanks, wev. I looked at the map in my link and saw they aren't listed anywhere close to the western part of the country. Their colors are definitely striking.
