Hi all,

Need some help deciding on a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8.
There is no real second hand lens purchase 'outlet' here, but i stumbled upon someone selling one here -
Tokina 11 16 f2.8 DX lens for Nikon mount - Bangalore - Cameras & Accessories

a) Is there any way i can check for damages or any other issues in lens (apart from visible physical damages, if any)?

b) is there any difference in the IQ of the pro dx & pro dxII?
i have a D7000 which has a focus motor, so that is not a requirement for the lens.

Thanks

I just got a refurbished one a week ago. I like it so far, but I noticed that the lens hood showed up in some of my pictures. Luckily, I noticed it pretty quickly. I had to crop it out of this pic. Is this normal? I was wondering if I was given a lens hood that doesn't really belong with it.

Eva, the number on the 11-16 hood should be BH-77A. On the inside of the hood, it should feel like fuzzy material. If not, it's not the right hood. I've never had the hood show up in any of my pics.

I ended up getting $90 inconvience refund from amazon for being given the wrong hood. So with that, I bought the bh-77a. I just tried it yesterday...and that showed up in my pictures too! What am I doing wrong? There seems to only be one way to screw it on. It does look exactly the same as the original lens hood that I got, except the fuzzy interior.

Do you think I got some kind of bootleg lens? It was refurbished from amazon. It came with a hoya hd uv flilter on it that wasn't mentioned in the description. Seems odd. It must be used.

Hello Eva. It does seem strange that a UV filter would be attached to a refurbished piece of glass. Could you please post an image showing what the problem is.
It just maybe a shadow of the hood , or if you use the onboard flash , it will show up as well.

Yeah, like Blacktop said, if you used the onboard flash with the hood attached, it will show up in the photo. Take the hood off if using the onboard flash....see what that does for ya. :)

I never use the flash. It looks like I deleted the pictures. I just tried to replicate, and it didn't show up. It looked just like this one that I took with the other hood, shows up in the corners

Whitelight, I know you will enjoy that lens. I decided on one a while back and really did not think I would use it that much but I find that I do use it quite often. I used it for this shot.

The hood is designed to be attached so that the smaller set of petals are positioned at three o'clock and nine o'clock on the lens, or to put it another way, the small set of petals should be side-to-side, while the large petals need to be positioned at the top and bottom of the lens. This particular orientation is what prevents the lens hood from showing in-frame when you take a shot.

thanks. Seems to be some problem with it screwing on so that its not quite at 3 and 9. Its definitely off. How annoying/weird.

It's possible you need to use some force to make it click. I have that with one hood too. Not too much force if possible. ;)

Also check if there are more manners to attach it. I can attach mine the wrong way too. It goes on but not all the way when I do that.
