Does Anyone Own The Nikkor 14-24 mm 2.8 lens?

Just wondering what to expect with this lens that I just bought? I should get it later this week. Here's it's the best. What can I expect of it on a D7100 camera?

I didn't buy that one, but you got a winner, from what i've been told, and have read. I played with the 14-24mm, when I was purchasing my 16-35mm. The retailer subtly slid the 14-24mm over to me to play with while he slowly wrote up the ticket on my 16-35mm. I can tell you that it's impressive. I only played with it for about 15 minutes. It's nice. Congratulations on your new toy.

I should learn to keep my mouth shut. I always know I'm going wrong, but can't stop. :)

It is a great lens, but frankly seems better on FX. On DX, it will be f/2.8, but will only be equivalent of 21-36mm view. On DX, the 12-24 will compete very well, but at f/4 (one stop).

On FX however, it is truly 14mm and truly awesome.

DX does has the telephoto advantage, but FX has the wide angle advantage.

That's a somewhat valid statement.

I covet this lens but I talked myself into the 16-35mm instead. I'm happy with the lens but always wonder just how green that grass is over there in 14-24 land. :)

It's a great lens but now you have to buy the FX body to go with it and use it to it's full potential.

Echoing what everyone said about FX vs. DX. A great lens, but I opted for the 16-35mm f/4 for four reasons, 1) I can stick a filter on the front of it (for front element protection and ND's for long exposures), 2) at those focal lengths the 1-stop doesn't by me much of anything in terms of the shallow end of DoF, and I have no beef with how my D600 and D800 operate at high ISO when I might want it inside, 3) comparisons of IQ between the two were so close that it is really picking nits when you call one "better" than the other, at least in my humble estimation, and 4) I saved enough to get a 15mm Fisheye and some other stuff for the bag.

Again, a great lens, and it would be cool to have for sure, but it's not justifiable or even necessary for me. But would you mind if I ask you to borrow it some day? ;)

I have now owned the 14-24 for about 6 months,, and the lens has become an integral part of my kit. While one could argue that
lens should be neutral to color, they are not!

I have always loved my 15mm prime,, It always produced such a rich picture,, like it captures the light differently, and until
now like not other lens I have in my collection.. until

yup the 14-24 has the same effect. Maybe its the huge curved front like the 15mm and of course the coating.

On the distortion, its quite low,, BUT.. only if you hold front square with the subject, tilt the lens, and you can
distort as much as you want (kinda a cool effect).

ok,, you bought a no compromise lens,, for the 7100,, seriously consider a used 700,, firesale 600, or the 610 ,,
or,, ok,,

the super fantastic 800..

on the 800 the 14-24 simply shines.

I've got 14 days to decide if I want to keep it...so maybe I will change my mind. I don't know. I just recently bought the 7100 so I don't think I'll be upgrading my camera body for a while. Unless my wife is sleeping and snoring one night....and I decide to take over paying all the bills. lol

It's a lifer lens, so unless a FX body isn't in your future or it under-performs in terms of the wideness you require, I would hold onto it. If you have no plans on going to FX any time soon and wanted "wide" then you'll likely be better served by the 8-16mm or 10-20mm Sigma, or the 11-16mm Tamron (or is that Tokina, I can't keep them straight). The 14-24mm isn't going to disappear any time soon.

tough one,, I think if I was in your shoes,, I would sell, and get the Nikkor 10-24 DX ED lens for 650 dollars,, and use the 800 dollars for another lens. After all,, someday,, when you do ever get the FX camera, you can sell the 10-24 easily,, and either buy another 14-24 new or used.

I believe that most people that own a 14-24 will take great care due to investment,, so,, can always pick up another lens.

Frankly,, I would rather have a true ultra wide angle (the Nikkor 10-24) then a bulky 14-24 which translates to 21mm.

I have a 7000,, and I would put on my sigma 10-20 before putting on the 14-24.

but,,on the other hand,,

you have the start of the holy trinity (ok,, all bow our heads and do the Nikkor Gregorian chant). just would need the
24-70 and 70-210,, and you would be done ... not...

good luck with whatever you choose.

Check some lens tests, like Nikon / Nikkor (APS-C) Lens Tests

The 14-24 seriously outperforms any of the DX lenses by a wide margin, vignetting, distortion, f/2.8, and particularly resolution... but it is big and awkward and heavy and expensive. The 14-24 is a great choice, but it just seems that much involvement also needs a FX body, to take full advantage of it.

Adding a FX body alone, with any lens which can cover it, is in itself, a half again wider view (than same lens on DX).

I have the 14-24 f/2.8, and I love it! It has very good IQ, f/2.8 constant for low light, and it's built very well. I use it with the D800, so I have the full, super-wide 14mm available. I agree you lose a good bit of its practicality on a DX, but if you ever have thoughts of getting an FX body in the future, it's a great lens to have!

It's not without flaws. As mentioned, it's heavy and bulky, and you have to be careful with the huge, bulbous front lens that has to be used "nekkid," since it has no filter threads and its form makes filter use all but impractical. The other disadvantage I've found is when shooting toward the sun, it's prone to quite prominent lens flare that shows up in the images, again due to its enormous, radically curved front lens.

It came yesterday and I have been out shooting some neighborhood shots this morning. Will post some of them once I ge them into Lightroom. What a beast of a lens! It really doesm't matter right now if I have a FX or not. Every lens out there zooms the lenses with a DX, so I'm happy so far. It is in perfect condition. A very light scuff mark on the front lens cap, but nothing significant.

I have this lens and use it on my D800 for landscapes and for some starry sky shots.
It constantly amazes me in the detail it can deliver. The 7100 has a high pixel density sensor so prepare to be amazed as well.
The only downside I can think of is that filters that will work with the lens are however not cheap.

The main problem I have is I can't stuff the lens into my big daddy camera bag.....It's a very bulky lens but shoots great! Can't wait to shoot some more....perfect for our HOA website photos that they've been bugging me for.
