My lens is literally, physically moving forward and back in front of the zoom ring. It will no longer focus and of course, I am worried it will fall out. Has anyone experienced this before? I have never hit or dropped this lens in the 3 years I have had it but I did buy it used from a trusted friend. :hopelessness:

If you intend on keeping this lens...and I certainly hope you do!....I would have it serviced by a Nikon tech to get it back to it's original state. Sounds like a mechanical adjustment needs to be made to the focus apparatus.

yes,, lens will loosen and almost separate with heavy use, and the telling sympthom is when it can no longer focus, or you sometimes can grab the front of the lens, and push back toward the camera, and the lens will catch/focus..

Like advice, service center, I have had a couple of lens do this, but,, I must say, that seems like the mean time to the needing another service decreases. I have a lens right now in this state that I am thinking of selling for parts and picking up a less mileage version.
