Weekly Challenge DATE: B&W Panorama

This week's challenge has a double twist. First, you will take at least 3-4 pictures, than mend them as a panorama. Then you will convert it to B&W. The picture will then be judged for composition, exposure and contrast.

Remember to read the challenge rules and follow them.

Have fun with your Nikon!

These challenges are designed to help you grow in your photography skills and creativity, and also to have fun. Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information.

The Rules
  1. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIFdata can be verified, we will use the honor system.
  2. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  3. Challenges will be judged solely by the panel. Individual voting via post "likes" will be incorporated into the final selection of the winning photo.
  4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge, unless otherwise indicated.
  5. Judging criteria is based on the Twelve Elements of a Merit Image.
There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator.

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject. For this week's challenge, you are asked to photograph a panorama with the added B&W twist. Yes, it is mostly about composition and light and shadows.

Nice to see a challenge, I have missed them the last couple weeks. This one sounds interesting and definitely a challenge. I have never mended photos before. Hope I can figure out how to! lol

OK! First and second attempt failed. I found out I should be shooting pictures vertically not horizontal. This way the picture isn't sqaushed height wise if using more than three pictures. Also I had camera set in aperature mode. That caused each picture to have different lighting. Round three tonight.

Newbie here... I undertsand your assessment on aperture mode... curious why one would not shoot horizontal?? It makes the "panorama" more wide by a long shot but does that not represent what a panorma is?

Well, this was my first try. I only had my mono-pod. Which only shoots horizontal.. Thats why when I got home to use the program I had noticed my mistake. Also I forgot to change my settings from my previous shooting. I never really read up on pan shots before. So, I did some research and found out the right way. Live and learn. I have a great spot to shoot from here and I should get a decent pic tonight.

I'm glad to see that some of you are actually putting serious work on this one.

I hope you all enjoy the work involved.

Marcel, it is a great challenge! I have not even had my camera a week... It will be fun, no matter what. I have never done a panorama ever before and have not done anything with b&w since maybe 1980!

For me, just finishing the challenge with be satisfying and a learning experience!

NOT FOR JUDGING

Took this one Saturday so it doesn't meet the criteria.

I never thought to hold the camera vertical which is why it's so squashed. These guys were parked right in front of our seats at the air show.

No Longer For Consideration

I broke out the thinking cap on this one.
I don't see any reason why a panny has to be a landscape.
With that in mind, I am taking you on a short tour of my side yard and
eight bottles of wine on my deck railing. This is four shots of two bottles each and
stitched together with non-melting ICE.

Enjoy

AW CRAP! I forgot the Black and white part! :stupid:

Bummer Dude!

:apologetic:

Here is what I SHOULD have posted.

And the X Pro 1 is receiving a firmware update which ought to make it sparkle! Save your money though because the only Fuji you really need is a S2, S3, or S5 Pro...that way you can still use your Nikon lenses. :)
