"Low Key"

Criteria for this week's challenge:
Low Key photography tends to be dark and moody. One great thing that Dangerspouse pointed out is everyone can choose their own subject for this weekly challenge.

Please vote for your choice of this week's Weekly Photo Challenge theme. The voting round will remain open for 3 days. The winner of each challenge will select the topic for the next challenge! In the event of a tie, the Weekly Photo Challenge Team will either select a final winner or combine topic choices of the winners.

Congratulations to this week's finalists:
@Needa
@mikew
Robin W
@f211s

Kudos to all of you - and thank you to everyone who participated and liked the challengers' images. :)

Less than 24 hours remain to cast your vote. And just so everyone knows, there is no way for me to tell who votes and who doesn't let alone which image any member chooses. So please be sure to vote for the image you think best represents the challenge if you are a Nikonites member. It's confidential. Thanks! :)

Thank you everyone, especially my husband who sat for the picture. This is his sinister or homicidal look. I went to the strobist training videos on beginning flash and this was one of their lighting setups.

Would you please explain your light modifiers, Robin? That might help some newbies dip their toes into the water! ;)

Robin W Very good. It is difficult to get votes with people images for some reason.
I was going to ask who the handsome subject is, I see it is Mr. W.

I used a single light with a soft box (same can be achieved with a light and umbrella) about 45 degrees, maybe a little more, to the right side of Andy and about 45 degrees up. I was following the directions from the following link. I think it is the 4th video in this series. They go through all the classic portrait light setups. https://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html
