This early announcement of the topic is to give a little think time, before the challenge begins. Photos must be taken and submitted between 00:00 UTC of the start date and 00:00 UTC of the end date.

This photo challenge is "Symmetry". A picture which is highly symmetric with respect to its vertical axis, i.e., the left half is very similar (though not necessarily identical) to the mirror image of the right half. Photos should have a combination of lighted and shadowy areas.Let's see how creative you can be! Color, B&W, HDR...anything goes!

The Rules

1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge. No gallery images or off-site links (flickr, 500px, etc) will be accepted.

2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread.

3. Only one photo entry per member for each week, unless otherwise noted.

4. All regularly active members of Nikonites are allowed to participate, including moderators and administrators.

Voting

During the submission & like periods, please click the Like this post button to vote for your favorite images. You can vote for as many as you want! At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to vote again for the top 3 photos for this challenge!

This time there will be a prize. The winner will receive a Black Rapid wrist strap!!

Maybe I'm still the only one confused about what we're looking for in the challenge? Symmetry on one side? Symmetry on both sides? Central axial symmetry?

Post #2 lists Central axial symmetry and show examples. ;)

The idea is simply symmetry as we see in arts, including architecture. Two halves that mirror each other.

Beyond this, it is up to the photographer to interpret and create. And then up to the members to like the interpretation.

LoL. Guess it helps that I can actually see his full pics in the post now that I'm on the laptop. My question certainly seems rather silly now. :stupid:

Thanks all for the responses and for dealing with my momentary lapse of mental awareness!

Being fair, the term axial would not apply to symmetry in a photograph, though a photograph could be of an object that has axial symmetry, like a rocket or dome.

The easy to shoot symmetry will likely be man-made. But there is scads of symmetry in nature, but harder to get some of them lined up for the shot. Here is an example from last year.
