Weekly Photo Challenge - Rules and Guidelines

The goal of the Weekly Photo Challenge is to give you new topics to shoot each week, keeping you motivated to use your camera often!

How the Challenge Works

1. Each challenge will run for 1 (one) week

2. Every challenge will have it's own thread. The title of each thread will be titled as follows: Weekly Challenge
[dates]: [subject].

3.Photos must be taken and submitted between 00:00 UTC of the start date and 00:00 UTC of the end date.

4. The Liking Period will end at 24:00 UTC of the end date (24 hours after the submission period ends).

5. A weekly winner will decide the topic of the next challenge. (Note: In order to keep the challenge timeline running, the challenge team will choose a topic if a response is not received by Monday 12:00pm UTC (8:00am EDT).

Choosing a Winner

There will be a two step voting process in picking a winner of each Weekly Photo Challenge:

1. As each week's challenge is active, please use the "Like this post" button to vote for your favorite images. You can like as many photos as you want!

2. At the end of the week, the Weekly Photo Challenge Team will create a new voting poll of the Top 3 most liked images. Members will then vote for their favorite and declare a winner who will get to choose the next challenge topic.

In the event of a tie during the "liked" images elimination round, they will be added to the voting poll.

The polling round will only be open for 3 days, so be sure to get your votes in!

In the event of a tie at the end of the polling round, the Weekly Photo Challenge Team will determine a winner.

The Rules (Effective with the Challenge beginning April 1, 2015)

1. Photos must be captured with a Nikon and appear in the thread with EXIF info in order to be considered for the challenge. If the forum EXIF viewer does not show for any reason, listing the camera and capture date/time below the photo is acceptable. Listing exposure info, lens & focal length is encouraged so others can learn.

2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread.

3. Only one photo entry per member for each week, unless otherwise noted.

4. All regularly active members of Nikonites are allowed to participate, including moderators and administrators.

Sounds like fun, hope to participate :)

One question about #1 above, what is the logic behind not allowing images linked to sites like Flickr, 500px, etc? Often I do not size my images small enough for 'attaching' in a forum.

Thanks.

It is good to see the image was taken with a Nikon and between the start/end times, and images loaded via URL usually have the EXIF stripped.

Might make a minor tweak to make this work better. Please stay tuned.

Also, the forum software seems to handle my full size uploads pretty well. The gallery can still have problems, but uploading images directly to the threads has usually resulted in the forum software automatically resizing the image(s) with very little noticeable impact to image quality.

Rule # 1 has been modified, effective with the Challenge starting April 1. The change clarifies the need to use a Nikon and will allow images as long as they appear in the thread and have EXIF info.

Since EXIF does not always make it through processing and/or linking, the change clarifies allowing EXIF to be typed in below the photo.

EXIF visible through the forums EXIF viewer is preferred, just because then it all reads the same and easier to review and check, but we don't mind doing a little more work provided you don't mind doing a little more work.

Please note a minor change to the guidelines.

The change is adding the following after #5 of the How the Challenge Works part: (Note: In order to keep the challenge timeline running, the challenge team will choose a topic if a response is not received by Monday 12:00pm UTC (8:00am EDT).

This is just to allow the challenges to keep moving. There is a natural lag between sending and receiving PMs to line out the next topic and if all the players are not online at the right times, it increases the lag times.

Yes, not on tapatalk but I do follow what you said.
So the camera adds the information and the forum software has a built in EXIF viewer to display it.....
Thanks Darksideno1

It can depend on how you prepare the picture for posting, the EXIF can get stripped at this point,i use photoshop and use save as this leaves it intact.

Hi guys....I get it now and have successfully posted a couple of pictures, Thanks. I use Photo Filtre and it also leaves the EXIF intact.

We really can use more people to volunteer for the Weekly Challenge Team. Posting the polls requires a PC or Mac, and the start/stop times are based on UTC, not local times. Mostly the responsibility falls on Tuesday's (ending a challenge and starting the next weekly challenge), Wednesday's (creating the weekly poll), and Saturday's (announcing the winner and contacting them for the next topic).

If anyone is interested, please feel free to PM @Marilynne or me until Walt is able to resume regularly. Thanks for any consideration. :)
