Contrast
Weekly Challenge Mar. 9 - Mar. 16

According to Merriam-Webster, Contrast is defined to be "a juxtaposition of dissimilar elements (as color, tone, or emotion) in a work of art". It's also "the difference or degree of difference between things having similar or comparable natures". Sometimes contrast is represented by opposites: black and white, old and young, peace and war.

Your challenge is to come up with a photo that represents "contrast" through your eyes.

Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on Mar. 16th...so get those photos in!

The Rules

  1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
  3. Challenges will be judged solely by the winner of the previous week. There will be no individual voting.
  4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

Re: Article: Weekly Challenge March 9-16: Contrast

The pictures are both from different times, the water bottle was shot just a few weeks ago, the Koi 2010, not sure if this is ok, I reworked this picture in Paintshop the other day, but if not I post it just for fun...lol?

I did an hour shooting with my new toy (D700) on the contrast challenge.
You can have a look at my gallery to see the runners up.
But, this is the one I've selected for this week's challenge.
Don't be afraid to leave comments in my gallery, I don't bite

Contrasts of Night Lights.jpg

Back in the day when I was trying novelty uses for my photography, I used to make nightlights. I used the flat panel cold touch lights instead of the incandescent because of small fingers getting burned.

Here, for your consideration, is my iteration of "Contrasts of Nightlights".

Pete

ps:

The nightlight at the bottom is a picture of one of my paintings inserted into the flat panel while the lighthouse is the cover for the incandescent that is above.

Pretty cool stuff, Pete. I like the lighthouse one. :)

That is a likeness of the Ocracoke Light on the Outer Banks. If you ever get down this way, let me know and we all can go there to see it in person.
Ocracoke Village has the most wonderful people that you will ever meet.

I was recently in Edinburgh Central Library and loved this window and the light that was coming in. Played about with contrast and exposure in CaptureNX to make it a bit more 'moodier' and Im quite pleased with the results.

I took this at Basildon Park Country Manor in Berkshire, UK. This is the place where they filmed the movie Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley, sadly I didn't bump into her :p I quite liked the contrast between the bright flowers and green tea-cups to the pale surround.DSC_0656.jpg
