wedding party in the shape of a heart photo

Hey All

I am drawing a huge blank on how to do a shot of the wedding party in the shape of a heart. There will be 10-15 people in it and it is going to be done in the reception hall. I figure I will have to be on a ladder but not really sure on the lens. Has anyone does this before and any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have the shape part but not sure on the lens I would use as I don't have time to play before the wedding would a 24-70 work

Man this is so simple you would not beleive ....get some tennis balls you cut in half ( or they roll ) and put them on the ground in a heart shape ..In your case as its a low number I would use one for each guest. Get them to stand conga style with there foot on the ball. I usually carry 50 balls
You need an elevated positon ..first floor window is ok.

this is the first one I ever did using round balls ..you can see one at the very front....you can do initials too.

These balls are a good idea, but you should be more careful to pick them all up before snapping the pic . It does not look very professional. Also placing a few flowers in the scene would have made the whole shot a bit more interesting. The bare grass is just not doing it for me. However a very good effort none the less.

So I am guessing your name is Will Speed?

If you read my posting you would realize that I ask the gusest to tread on the balls which being tennis balls are quite easy to see ..This was the first on I did some years ago and in the one supplied to the client the front ball would have been removed.
I am sure grass is better than tarmac and is quite acceptable in an english enviromment ..

Personally I prefer the views of the judges of the MPA and BIPP and my wife is qualified with the Royal Photographic society.
The problem is now in 2015 in the UK not america your work is governed by what you are allowed to do ..time constraints ,bored grooms ,brides who want to party and are drunk, Hotel managers who do not co operate and lifeless venues..I dont use models or do wedding dress on pre shoots or post shoots.
Considering 60% of UK weddings are done by uncle bob and many of the rest by saturday shooters it leaves little room for professionals to perform have time and get respect.

I looked through your images 10 gauge and nothing with a human interaction ..flys ,cars ,lighthouses dont talk back or get drunk. so perhaps if you can show me 10 of your weddings I can judge

I'm not going to be especially critical of your pictures Love Nikon but I didn't see any that stood out to me as being better than those you slated in another thread. I think constructive criticism can be accepted by all on here, I certainly welcome it, but when you leave out the constructive part you should be expecting the type of response you got.

With that in mind, the only thing that stood out to me on your website were the one or two pictures I saw that had been artificially blurred in an attempt to draw attention to the subject. For me it was distracting and detracted from the image. My preference if anything would have been to add a more traditional vignette. Of course that might have been the exact effect your clients wanted, so fine.

Nope, I prefer to just stay my hobbyist, non-interaction self. But, considering I have looked at hundreds of wedding 'togs sites and pix, yours just don't stack up. Sorry mate. :(

Well, except for the fact that most us reading THIS thread, also read your (infamous?) posts in "that other thread"... You know, the one where you criticized another poster's arguably fantastic wedding photos and then go on to insult the bride by referring to her as "too old" and having large hips?

Sidebar: Am I to rightly assume from that post you decline jobs from brides-to-be who are past a certain age or with hips you find too large? And if so, at what point exactly do those hips become "too large" to be worthy of your efforts?

In short, you seem quick to criticize the work others yet won't post your own work. By "pictures" (plural) I think you mean "picture" (singular). We only found your work online after hunting for it and having reviewed it myself, I have to say while I've seen much worse, I too have certainly seen much better and I don't seem to be alone in that assessment. Which leads me to your pointing out most of us here are not wedding photographers and therefore are not in a position, really, to know good wedding photography from bad. I would point out most of us don't have, nor do we need, excellent singing voices in order to recognize excellent singing when we hear it. Just as most of us are able to recognize superb wedding photography when we see it without needing to be wedding photographers ourselves.

What you take away from your experience here on Nikonites is entirely your own. I just hope you did in fact learn something and I wish you all the best in future endeavors.

You're far too nice Horoscope Fish.

He's not one to be judging a brides figure and willingness to have pictures taken based on that. You looked at his portfolio, did you see any supermodels in that bunch? Neither did I.

He wouldn't know the size of their hips anyhow, he doesn't meet ANY of his clients face to face before the wedding, remember?
