WTB: Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens (or equivalent)

A discontinued previous version would work as well; I am open to suggestions. If you have something lying around that you've replaced with something more up to date, give me a shout. Thanks.

Before I purchased my Tokina 12-24 mm back in 2004, I tested both it and the Sigma 10-20 on my D70 at a camera store. The Tokina lens was significantly sharper. So much so that I purchased the Tokina vs the Sigma despite badly wanting the extra 2mm of wide angle. For many years I would purchase nothing but Nikon or Tokina until the Sigma 150-600 came along and it finally convinced me that Sigma could make a decent lens.

Michael Jaeger had the older one that had the variable aperture and he has moved to mirrorless. Not sure if he still has his or is selling it, but you might check. His landscapes of Thailand got me started looking at the Sigma. I did get the f/3.5 version.

Thanks, Danno. I appreciate the heads-up and have sent Michael a note.

And thanks, Brent. That, too, is good information and will send me scurrying in yet another direction for some additional research.

Great forum.

I sold all my Nikon Geras, Lenses, Filters, Tripod, Bags, etc.

I am so comfortable with my Olympus EM 10 Mark 2.

Thanks for the reply (including the PM), Michael. Good to know that you have found a new comfort level. :encouragement:

Some of us are still on the hunt.

I'm hoping that a bump to this thread might spur on a search of the camera bag to locate something you might not be using -- maybe even something you've forgotten all about -- that would fill the bill here. Thanks, as always.

If you're on a budget for a UWA lens for your D7200, look into the older version of The Tokina 11-16mm. Not the DXII but the older one. The only difference between the two is the price, and the DXII has a built in drive that you don't need on the D7200.

I had one, but sold it when I got the D750. It was a great lens. IQ was fantastic and it was built like a tank.

I ended up buying a new Sigma lens from one of the big online sellers. Many thanks for the advice and suggestions. As always, it's greatly appreciated.

Please let me know your opinion I. Read on forums everywhere Tokina was best but sigma was still good but all my friends use the sigma and love it and nearly everyone on Facebook groups also use the sigma I'm swaying this way now. Also looking too get a brand new one from Curry's as I get discount somehow via work it's only £300

I love mine. I use it a lot for landscapes and architecture. I would not trade it. It is sharp lens. I think this one spends most of the time on my D7200. It is a toss up between this lens and my Tamron 70-200 2.8
