portrait speedlight studio set up needed

I have bought the speedlights, but I need the studio setup for portraits. I'm hoping to make a little money maybe doing portraits and or family photos. Not too big since I will likely be in a one bedroom appartment. I will hold $100.00 aside for this studio. I would like a grey mottled muslim if you know what I'm trying to say. A good background for people!

I will have 3 nikon sb-800 flashes, as I prefer nikon brand and the sb-800 are the most reasonable for the power.

Anyway, any help you can offer is most welcome, since I have very little knowledge on studio stuff.

Thank you for your help.

Also I could really use some info on prices using a D800e's ability of producing super large prints. If I know the approximate value, then barter might be the option with less worrisome issues.

I'm still waiting to find out if I qualify for food stamps, and tomorrow I go to pay on my badcock and more account to get the payments lowered.

It looks like it is no longer available buddy. But I am looking for something like that also with umbrellas for my speedlights!:)

Hi Bill,
I bought this from Amazon last year, very pleased with the quality of the gear - Well made, sturdy and fully adjustable for size - It comes at a price, and doesn't have the grey backdrop you mention but I thought it would be of interest!

Two Prism 10x20' 100% Cotton Muslin Backdrops and The: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo

Also - This made me really lol in the office " I would like a grey mottled muslim "

Be wary of the cheap all-in-one sets, Bill - A guy I work with bought one and it was flimsy and pretty useless - Also pay attention to the backdrop sizes... Many aren't tall enough for people standing up or the material only just reaches the floor!

I just bought two umbrellas stands with speedlight holders. Now I just need the backdrop studio set. I'm not sure if I can afford it, though I admit I need a pretty good quality stands and muslin.

I found that a lot of the muslins are quite small on the cheaper sets, and are either not wide or not long enough. Also consider the strength of the stand, especially if you are going to move it around place to place.

I think you are exactly right my friend. But I can't tell which ones might be heavy duty and good quality. I think most of them are small and low quality, and I'm having a lot of trouble finding a good set.:(

If you only have the SB-800s, $100 might be a little short.
You'll need:
stands - minimum $25 x3 + $75
umbrellas/modifiers - minimum $20 x3 = $60
umbrella/flash adapter - minimum $20 x3 = $60
flash triggers - minimum 4 Yongnuo 603s = $60
backdrop stand w/backdrop = $100
Plus, if you're going to sell your work, you might want to have business cards, a web site and online proofing/fulfillment. Add another $400.

I have 2 stands, umbrellas, flash holders, and the sb-800 will work as a commander to set off the other two.

But I don't have the backdrop stands and backdrop muslin.

umbrella flash adapters can go down to 7 each but stands up tp 30 at least for decent ones. not great ,decent
but otherwise price list is at he bare minimum for off brand asian products.

How handy are you? My Dad built his backdrop stands. Although, it is much easier to just buy what you need.

How much do you want to pay for a professional muslin?

Well I bought the yongnuo 603ii triggers and a couple more flash unbrella stands. All I am lacking now is backdrop stands and muslin backdrops.

A pair of inexpensive light stand, separate them by about 6 ft, hook a rod or heavy dowel between them and the appropriate color of queen size sheet draped over that and you are in business..

Can anyone post a link to a good backdrop setup that is also large enough? I'm having a hard time finding a good setup out of all those no so good ones.:(

I'm looking to get a good setup while I can, or I may end up with sheets like your saying my friend. I would just prefer a better quality setup if I can get one.
